Tannat is an old grape variety originating in south-west France with considerable plantings in Uruguay, where it is considered their ‘national grape’. The wines that come from both are quite different – big powerful wines from France, soft and supple from Uruguay.
22 year old vines directly descended from those in France. We ferment the wine on skins for 6 days – any longer and it would become too tannic, such is the nature of the grape. Hand pumping over before being matured in large volume French oak for 12 months.
