Lurid ruby. Powerful, spice-accented red and blue fruit aromas are complemented by hints of candied flowers and incense. Broad, pliant and appealingly sweet, offering palate-staining boysenberry and cherry compote flavors given lift and focus by a spine of smoky minerals. In an ample but energetic style, showing impressive finishing thrust, sneaky tannins and lingering sweetness. Drink: 2021-2027 (Dec17)

The current Chateau Grand Cochard was built way back in 1759 but can trace it’s origins back to Roman times when it was a major route featuring on the Antonine maps of 280 AD. The vineyard consists of gnarly, low yielding 40-100 year old vines that provide great intensity and complexity. These old vines have deep root systems penetrating different layers of soil and rock. They are farmed organically and made with minimal sulfur.
