The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Habemus Papam suffers only by comparison to the domaine's other micro-cuvées. It still delivers lovely cherry and stone fruit notes, medium to full body and ample concentration. The tannins are a bit grippier in this wine, so lay it down for a few years. Drink: 2020 - 2030

This label is a tribute to Jean XXII, a native of Cahors, who was the first pope to choose Avignon as the Papal residence and build a new castle (château neuf) in the place that should become Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wine is a hand picked blend of Grenache (64%), Syrah (25%), Mourvedre (10%) & Counoise (1%) grown on sandy clay, safre soils, ancient alluvial and molassic sands. Before release the wine spends 18 months in large foudres and terracotta jars.
