The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Pied de Baud, a blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, offers compelling scents of rose petals and raspberries on the nose. While not as richly textural as some of the other cuvées, it's still a lovely, hauntingly fragrant example of Châteauneuf du Pape. Drink:2017-2027

Le Pied de Baud Chateauneuf-du-Pape comes from one single hectare of vines surrounded by forest in the North of the appellation. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault thrive here in the shade of old oaks and deeply rooted in alluvial soils of river gravel and clay, once deposited by the prehistoric Rhône river. The wine spends 18 months in large foudres and terracotta jars before bottling.
