Molitor Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Beerenauslese Riesling 2015 375ml
Markus Molitor rates his 2015 vintage quite high but admits that the growing season was not all plain sailing: “The summer proved rather hot , and hummus management was important to retain as much water as possible. Rain came in September and brought some fear of a repeat of the difficult harvest conditions in 2014 and 2013. But fortunately this was not to be. At the right time, the weather abruptly turned for the better and we were able to enjoy a dream of a harvest, with all the time needed to make the right selections. We harvested for a full six weeks, from the end of September right until November 10. With hindsight, the rain of September actually proved a god-sent gift as it allowed the grapes to continue their physiological ripening process well into October. As a result, we brought in a stunning vintage which I compare with a slightly riper version of 1990 at my Estate.”
The 2015 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Beerenauslese is very clear, fresh and smoky on the nose that displays super fine, ripe, precise and well defined fruit intertwined with very fine slate aromas. This BA has a seamless, highly finessed and delicate texture and is terribly stimulating due to its transparency, finesse and crystallinity. The finish is stimulatingly fine and salty but also complex and frisky, very crystalline. I have rarely tasted such a fine, fresh and digestible BA. The greatest news, however, is: the 375-milliliter bottle sells for 55 Euro ex cellar! Based on the selections of 50,000 vines.
