What the Critics say
From a South / South West facing vineyard located in 'La Caille’, Condrieu planted in 2007 on deep granitic soils. Le Matisses is vinified in barrel with a weekly batonnage to extract flavour and texture. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in the barrel before being filtered and bottled after spending 12 months in wood. It is a classic, rich Condrieu with notes of citrus and apricots. Only 1500 bottles produced.
Christophe Billon has been tending the vines of Cote Rotie for years. His career really began after taking over his fathers modest estate of .017 ha on Cote Rozier. Whilst working as a viticulturist for the Guigals (and also selling the bulk of his grapes to the family) he has built the domaine holdings up to 3.5 ha in Cote Rotie and 1.5 ha of Vdp. Most of his Cote Rotie vines, planted on the schist soils are around 30 years of age with some going back to the original plantings of 1942.
