What the Critics say
Light to mid-straw-yellow hue, with a complex bouquet of toasted nuts and smoked charcuterie, honey and poached fruits, but the sulfides are less invasive than this maker's other chardonnay. Intense, refined palate with persistent flavour and excellent line and length. It's properly dry and penetrating. A stylish, high-level chardonnay. (140 cases. 30% new oak. From a single vineyard at Taylor Pass) Drink: 2020-2028
This inaugural vintage has bowled us over with its bright, zesty grapefruit and lemon notes coupled with brioche, musk and savoury toastiness. There is an oyster-shell, chalky texture that is borne upon precise, defined acidity. Wild fermentation, zero battonage, natural malolactic fermentation and a mixed format oak regime (barriques and puncheons – 30% new) results in a complex and layered palate. Maintaining the minimalist philosophy, Blank Canvas bottle it without filtration and it is presented only with sincerity.
