What the Critics say
Cantina del Pino's 2012 Barbaresco is a gorgeous and very reasonably priced top-tier Barbaresco. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, wild flowers, mint and chalk are all bright and delineated throughout. Even after all of the highs and lows of the growing season, the 2012 has turned out to be a pretty classic wine. The radiant, open-knit fruit, bright acidity and beams of supporting tannin result in an impeccably balanced, mid-weight Barbaresco that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Drink: 2020-2027
The Vacca family has been living and working the vines at Cantina del Pino, one of the oldest estates in Barbaresco, since the 1920s when Giuseppe Vacca, bought the property from his friend, the legendary agronomist and director of the Royal Enological School in Alba, Domizio Cavazza.
The family's vineyards are concentrated around the Ovello hill. The site is known for its combination of cooler microclimate and unique soils blending limestone with sandy veins and a high calcium content, the perfect conditions for an elegant, age-worthy Barbaresco.
