The 2016 Barbaresco is a knock-out. And it is, for lack of a better word, the entry-level wine in this range. Freshly cut flowers, mint, cinnamon, red berry fruit and orange zest are some of the notes that lift from a Barbaresco that is all class. There is plenty of structure, but the purity of the fruit is so striking that the tannins are not especially noticeable. The 2016 is a stunning wine, that’s all there is to it. Drink: 2024 - 2036

The Vacca family has been living and working the vines at Cantina del Pino, one of the oldest estates in Barbaresco, since the 1920s when Giuseppe Vacca, bought the property from his friend, the legendary agronomist and director of the Royal Enological School in Alba, Domizio Cavazza.

The family's vineyards are concentrated around the Ovello hill. The site is known for its combination of cooler microclimate and unique soils blending limestone with sandy veins and a high calcium content, the perfect conditions for an elegant, age-worthy Barbaresco.
