I loved the 2013 Hermitage Gambert de Loche last year from barrel, and it didn’t disappoint this year. Aged 18 months in barrel, its inky purple color is followed by sensational notes of black cherries, beef blood, licorice and crushed rock. Medium to full-bodied, structured, concentrated and layered, it’s a serious Hermitage that will need 5-6 years of cellaring, and will have two decades or more of overall longevity.
