Possessing a classic feel in its black raspberry, violets, crushed rock and bacon fat-scented bouquet, the 2014 Côte Rôtie Les Elotins is medium-bodied, elegant and silky, with a pretty, nicely balanced profile that will allow it to evolve gracefully. Coming mostly from the Côte Rozier (this is the Côte Brune side of the AOC), it incorporates 5% Viognier, was completely destemmed and will see 26 months in one- to two-year-old barrels.

Christophe Billon has been tending the vines of Cote Rotie for years. His career really began after taking over his fathers modest estate of .017 ha on Cote Rozier. Whilst working as a viticulturist for the Guigals (and also selling the bulk of his grapes to the family) he has built the domaine holdings up to 3.5 ha in Cote Rotie and 1.5 ha of Vdp. Most Cote vines, planted on the schist soils are around 30 years of age with some going back to the original plantings of 1942.
