The palate has a supple and generous texture as well as a pleasant freshness on the finish. Ageing potential of 4 to 5 years. Françoise has now been joined by the next generation, with her daughter Camille, who helps with the 14-hectare Domaine of wonderfully sited, mainly old vines, spread amongst 13 different Premier Crus in the viticultural amphitheatre that is Montagny. They produce several wines including their introductory `Camille`, `L`Original` (which is aged in terracotta), as well as their highly-regarded Premier Crus `Les Grappes d’Or` and `Les Coeres`. Montagny is located in Burgundy in the Cote chalonnaise and just 30km south of Chassagne, Puligny Montrachet and Meursault. The history of the Montagny Wine Region dates back to Gallo-Roman times when the Romans occupied this area. The wine industry was introduced to this region during that time. The first documented evidence of winemaking in this region occurred during the 10th century and it was done by Benedictine monks who had a monastery there. The wines of Montagny are a perfect example of how the soil and climate can influence a wine's character. The soil in Montagny is chalky, with clay on the top layer. This composition affects how the grape vines interact with the soil and thus impacts flavor production. In addition, Montagny lies within a cool climate zone, which modifies its temperature to produce wines that are delicate and fruity.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0602/5694/4264/files/Feuillat-Juillot_Montagny_1er_Cru_Cuv_e_Les_Vignes_de_Francoise.png?v=1780543815
vincent-girardin-macon-fuisse-2022
Vincent Girardin Macon-Fuisse 2022

If you’re into silky Chardonnay with a little extra body, Macon’s always a good bet.

Vincent Girardin Mâcon-Fuissé is an elegant white Burgundy that captures the charm and accessibility of Chardonnay from the Mâconnais region. The domaine has around 22 hectares (54 acres) of owned vineyards and also acts as a négoce, buying in fruit from growers who can adhere to a certain code of practice, which includes things like using higher trellising for better photosynthesis and avoiding the use of herbicides and insecticides. and quite exciting. And an awfully good price!” - 16 POINTS, JancisRobinson.com

There is an abundance of citrus and green apple elements, along with a floral top note. The racy and equally dense medium-weight flavours possess excellent delineation on the lingering, balanced, and very dry finale. This isn't quite as complex, but it is also very good for what it is and equally recommended. Drink from 2025 onward.

86-87 Points, Allen Meadows Burghound.com, June 2023

Fine mid yellow. Decent volumes here. Some elegance in the perfume, and a rounder feel thanks to the inclusion of some Mâconnais juice. Correct tension, a nicely made middleweight Bourgogne. Dark black cherry, fresh spice and tar aromas. Bright, with nice red fruit weight and balanced by a clean mineral edge. A nice core for fruit on the good finish. This should be a very flexible food wine and again smashing value! Post fermentation the wine is places into French oak casks (15% new) and after malolactic fermetation aged on fine lees for 14 months. No fining and filtering. The Santenay is a well-built wine. Its bouquet is of strawberry where the old vintages are characterized by chestnut and dried plum. Drinks beautifully with roasted meats, game and various cheeses.

ABOUT VINCENT GIRARDIN

The grapes come from the vineyards from the village of Santenay in the Côte de Beaune, where Vincent Girardin was born. This is a historic wine and flagship one from the Maison Vincent Girardin. The vines are 45+ years old. The soil is clay and mostly limestone. Gentle sloping. Despite the fact that the vineyards are in the south of the Cote de Beaune, the terroirs are in fact very similar for Gevrey Chambertin in the Cote de Nuits. Hand-picked, partially de-stemmed and softly pressed.

92 Points, Jasper Morris MW InsideBurgundy.com, Apr 2024: “Ripe but agreeably cool aromas reflect notes of red gamay, cherry and soft earth wisps. It makes a wide range of wines from both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay although the latter predominates. The domaine has around 22 hectares (54 acres) of owned vineyards and also acts as a négoce, buying in fruit from growers who can adhere to a certain code of practice, which includes things like using higher trellising for better photosynthesis and avoiding the use of herbicides and insecticides. In the winery, the grapes undergo fermentations using indigenous yeasts, followed by long maturation on the fine lees.
