    Description

An Iconic wine that is only made when vintage conditions allow the very best fruit to develop. As such, over the last 10 vintages Glenguin has only made a shiraz of the quality demanded to be called ‘Aristea’ in 2007, 2009, 2017 and now 2018. 12 months in French oak with 50% of barrels new, along with 40% whole bunch pressed, is the highlight and as a result we hold it back from release for, on average, five years to allow the oak tannins and the fruit flavours to fully integrate into the wine. The result is a classic aged Hunter Shiraz on release.

    What The Critics Say
Deep red/purple colour, with a plum-cake, pepper and chocolate aroma, ripe and warm-grown, with blackberry nuances and medium to full-bodied, rich palate. Eastern spices and dried herbs - thyme and oregano. The tannins are quite firm and rugged, the balance good and the texture quite dense. A robust style of shiraz for the Hunter, and quite superb. Drink: 2020-2035.

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Glenguin

Glenguin Estate was first planted in 1988 and is close to the village of Broke in the Hunter Valley, home of Australia’s two oldest wine styles made from Semillon and Shiraz. In 1999 a few acres of Tannat was planted in ironstone soils on the hill at Glenguin. The vines at Glenguin average 20 years of age with a small plot of 50-year-old vines in Pokolbin. Sustainable viticulture has always been practiced at Glenguin. No pesticides are used and only fully biodegradable applications are made in the vineyard that is like a garden with native grasses growing between the vines.
