Heidi Schrock produces some of the best Austrian sweet wines as well as interesting dry whites and reds. She took over her family winery in 1983, in the historic village of Rust situated near the Hungarian border. The south-facing vineyards near Rust form an amphitheatre around Lake Neusiedl. In this part of Austria, the yearly hours of sunshine are much higher than the Austrian average. The extra sun combined with sandy soils mixed with clay and high calcium content provide a perfect terroir for impressive wines.
'50% Welschriesling and 50% Weissburgunder. 85% botrytis affected grapes and 15% ‘fresh’ grapes. Fermented and matured for 12 months in wooden casks. Lake Neusiedl creates a unique climate in its environs. High humidity around the lake allows botrytis to grow in most years.'
