What the Critics say
From reddish slate, Immich's 2012 Enkircher Steffensberg Riesling offers a fascinating freshness, purity and precision on the subtle yet intense nose, which displays greenish herbal and spicy notes as well as stone dust and bright fruit aromas –– a highly complex combination of a deep and stunningly ripe Riesling cru that was fermented in used barriques that give the bouquet and the noble texture a certain something. On the palate the full-bodied though – due to a perfect 12 grams of residual sugar – not powerful wine is rich, piquant and elegant but keeps its crystalline and well-balanced texture that takes this lovely juicy, terroir-driven Riesling to an expressive yet noble finish. This is certainly another style Riesling which seems to combine the Mosel world with the sophisticated winemaking of finest Burgundies. The acidity here is absolutely delicious. Chapeau for a great (almost) dry Mosel Riesling!

Gernot Kollmann is the man at Immich-Batteriberg, formerly at Van Volxem and Knebel among others, to run the property and to vinify the wines. Coincidentally, Gernot had a strong interest in Immich-Batterieberg years before and even sought investors for this once-renowned estate but to no avail. Since taking over, Gernot’s first two vintages have been an enormous success.s
