Of the '21: "A poised and vivid Gamay with sour cherries, currants, crushed strawberries and sweet spices on the nose. Medium body with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Peppery and flavorful finish with excellent length. Drink or hold."
92 Points | James Suckling, March 2023

A very dark colour, rich in aroma and flavour, deep and mysterious, with purple flowers and black cherries interleafed with vanilla and charcoal dust. A gothic Morgon, purple-draped and heavy on the eyeliner. Organic. The vines here have an average age of 70 years. 30% of the wine was aged in barrel. 13.5% alc. Drink now-2036.

Vinous (2020 vintage): “Shimmering violet colour. Dark berries, cherry preserves, candied flowers and liquorice on the expansive spice- and mineral-accented nose. Smooth and fleshy in style, offering bitter cherry, blackberry, fruitcake flavours that become more energetic as the wine stretches out. A suave, floral pastille note builds slowly on the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with repeating dark berry character and excellent tenacity." - 92 points

Decanter (2020 vintage): “It's a gorgeous ruby/purple hue, and there's a wonderful purity of brambly black forest fruit, smooth and dark, but with palate-cleansing acidity and a subtle lick of vanilla. Good length too.” - 90 points

This estate, established in 1902, is managed by fourth generation vigneron Jean-Paul Dubost who took over from his father in 1993. Jean Paul is farming the 22 hectare estate organically and the non-interventionist philosophy is carried through to the winemaking. JP uses no chemicals and minimal sulphur. His view is that this allows him to produce wines that express the qualities of the gamay and the specific terroirs of his vineyards. He is extremely fortunate to have some ancient vines and this is reflected in the quality of all of his wines, not least the Beaujolais-Villages, which is as good as many of his neighbours’ Cru wines.
