The 2008 Scrio (Syrah) wraps around the palate with layers of rich, dark fruit. This is a decidedly cool Scrio that stands apart from some of the more bombastic wines of recent vintages. Dark cherries, plums, espresso and sweet herbs are some of the aromas and flavors that emerge over time, but it is the integration of the French oak this year that truly elevates the wine to another level. Not surprisingly, in 2008 Scrio was aged exclusively in 1 year-old barrels, with no new oak, which makes a huge difference. This is understated and simply great. Drink: 2016-2028

Scrio was born in 1994, out of Eugenio Campolmi's wish to produce a wine which would best express his vision of Syrah, his favorite grape variety. As all Le Macchiole wines, Scrio has an original personality and it is one of the very few Syrah wines produced in Bolgheri that stands out differendy from French Syrahs. It is a very limited production of 5,000 bottles, the result of a painstaking selection of the best bunches harvested in our vineyards year after year.
"Scrio" is a Tuscan word that translates as pure, genuine, honest. It is usually used to refer to people who are pure of heart.
