What the Critics say
'The 2012 Special Club finds Arnaud Margaine at his very best. Ample, creamy and beautifully layered on the palate, with exquisite aromatics, the Special Club dazzles from the very first taste. All the elements simply fall into place. Lemon peel, orchard fruit, crushed rocks and lifted floral notes convey brightness, but here, too, I am blown away by the wine's precision and focus. The 2012 is 100% Chardonnay, aged partly in wood, with full malolactic fermentation. It may very well be the most complete Champagne I have ever tasted from Arnaud Margaine. Drink: 2018 - 2028'
100% Chardonnay Villers-Marmery. Fermented in both vats and wooden casks with 7g/L dosage.
Special Club or Club Trésor of Champagne is a designation of a growers best bottling, released only in the great vintages.
To be included in this club a grower must make undertake the entire Champagne production process within their own cellar from only grapes harvested in their vineyards. (pressing, bottling, ridding, disgorging, etc)
The wines also undergo the scrutiny with two blind tastings, once before bottling and again after 3 years in the bottle by a panel of distinguished oenologists and wine makers.
Only wine makers who have successfully passed these two tests are deemed worthy of putting their chosen champagne in the unique ‘Special Club’ bottle which may not be used by anyone except the members of the Club Trésors.
