    Gentle Folk Chardonnay 2024

94pts The Wine Front: "It’s not labelled as such but this is the ‘Village’ chardonnay. It’s yet more evidence of the exemplary produce of Gentle Folk. There’s a squeakiness to this wine, and a cleanliness, and yet it’s characterful and well sustained. That’s the wines of Gentle Folk in a nutshell. Apple, brine, custard apples, sweet spice and a subtle honey-like note. There’s a chalky/pebbly character to the finish, and a touch of grip there too. It’s pretty much gorgeous, all told."

    Gentle Folk Pinot Noir 2024

95pts Halliday Wine Companion: “It has the weight and concentration to make you double check the price. While not straying from its usual form, this release is slightly more savoury and earthy – an honest blend of fruit from all the estate vineyards, plus a little addition from Uraidla. Bramble and moss, orange rind and dried fig – this is fruit broken open to the air of a cold autumnal dusk. It's contemplative and unfurls over days. The tannins are soft but elastic and there is a feeling of stretch and relent to their movements. And the acidity gleams. It's spicy, too: pine needle, violets and black tea."

Gentle Folk 'Monomeith' Pinot Noir 2023

Top 100 Wines of 2024, Nick Ryan The Weekend Australian

96pts Halliday Wine Companion: "A union of the site and Gareth Belton's respect for it, this is a wine with heart and soul. Remarkably aromatic, sure-footed but fine-boned, it's mesmerising in its approach and carries a bouquet of romance – dried roses, strawberry, and clove. The concentration here is to be revered—can we taste in colour? This wine makes it feel as though we can." - Katrina Butler

    What The Critics Say
Of 2023 Monomeith Pinot Noir: "Gareth Belton really matters. His Gentle Folk wines are poetically expressive and expertly made. This alluringly aromatic pinot from a vineyard near Ashton is finely spiced and gorgeously supple. A wine that speaks of place, not ego."

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Gentle Folk

The Real Review's Rising Star of the Year Australia 2025

Gareth and Rainbo Belton have grown the reputation of Gentle Folk to the point where their wines are now among the most in-demand in all of Australian wine. This is a case of gentle folk making gentle wines, but there’s more to it than that: both Gareth and Rainbo are also marine scientists, their (PhD) specialty being marine plants (seaweeds), and there’s a sense to everything that they do that the natural order and way of things is their chief informant. The Adelaide Hills region has been crucial – indeed, the driver – of the Australian 'progressive wine' movement, and Gentle Folk has been a quiet but inspiring ingredient thereof.

The wines ooze a natural charm that only inspired farming practices and sensitive winemaking can deliver. Gentle Folk are truly unique Australian wines that express their origins and the ethos of their dedicated thoughtful maker.  And yes, they sell out fast!
