    Description

100% Sangiovese. Terrific value. 92 Points by The Wine Front. Ruby red wine with a refined scent of black cherry, plum, cloves, laurel and toast. Full and juicy in taste with an invigorating freshness and mild tannins. The aftertaste is smooth with a beautiful oak touch. A bold, structured and expressive fruit-forward red wine that would make the ultimate partner to a classic pasta dish with a simple tomato sauce and grated cheese.

    ABOUT GHIACCIO FORTE

Ghiaccio Forte (literally ice fortress) was once a flourishing and wine-producing Etruscan city. Today it is one of the better wineries in the Maremma. The cellar is located less than a kilometer from the historic settlement. The special winery is owned by Filippo Chia, also owner and winemaker of the renowned Montalcino house Castello Romitorio. The domain is located on the Tuscan coast, just south of Grosseto. Filippo owns about twenty hectares of vineyards, twelve of which are in Morellino di Scansano. The proximity to the Mediterranean Sea provides cooling in the quite warm region, and therefore beautiful freshness in the grapes, which can ripen perfectly here. The vineyards have been farmed organically since 2020.

Although 15% other grapes are allowed, Filippo makes his Morellino (since 2018) from 100% sangiovese. The grapes are harvested by hand and thoroughly selected and destemmed upon entering the cellar. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Wood aging does not achieve this pure sangiovese expression.

The result is a powerful, rich but at the same time supple red wine, Tuscan sangiovese through and through. Ripe red cherry fruit, savory spiciness, juicy freshness and a medium body. A delicious wine with rustic Tuscan cuisine, such as pasta or polenta with wild boar ragout. It also stores well for up to five years after harvest.

    Description

Medium, bright ruby red. The nose has a discreet scent of raspberry, rose hip, sage and light spice. The palate is fresh and delicate with clear cherry fruit, ferrous notes, currently the tannins are still a bit young.

    What The Critics Say
Red cherry, raspberry, tobacco and dried herbs, almond and flowers. Medium-bodied, fresh with a plenty of crunch to acidity and a pleasingly rustic, yet mineral, grip to tannin, the finish is savoury with tobacco and new leather, and pretty solid length. This is a lovely expressive wine, and seems to be fruit driven and energetic, which is pretty much how I like my Sangiovese. It could only be Italian. Yes. Drink: 2024-2030.
