It's soft and red fruited, with leathery tannins and a great balance, no doubt due to over a year maturing in 500L oak. There's an an earthy savouriness and exotic spice, too, making this beautifully fragrant and food friendly. A lovely Greek wine.

Apostolos Thymiopoulos is without a doubt the rising star of Naoussa, Greece. In the past decades he has worked with local growers and at the same time has forged out an expression of Xinomavro that shows this variety in a modern light. His understanding of natural winemaking is evident, yet the wines maintain a clean, fresh elegance and purity of fruit, that’s delicious! His vines, cultivated according to biodynamic methods at an altitude of 180m in the southern sector of the appellation, are blessed with a good amount of sunshine. The terrain is comprised of Naoussa’s most geologically complex soils, containing limerich marlstone, schist and granit.

    What The Critics Say
"This is a project by Apostolos Thymiopoulos. 50% Xinomavro, 35% Krassato, 15% Stavroto. 14 months in 500-litre old French oak. Deep garnet. Complex and inviting aroma that has so many layers: herbal red fruits, leafiness, sweet tobacco, even floral notes. A great combination of freshness, firm tannin texture and fruit that still has energy, even though it's ripe. Juicy, even though the tannins are firm and dry – really marked by the Xinomavro. Delicious now but a wine with a future, where the fruit and the origin, not the winemaking, shine. Drink by 2029."
