What the Critics say
The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Le Pied de Baud blends Grenache with about 15% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault. It's a bit earthier and darker fruited than the other 2018s here, plush and round in the mouth. Full-bodied yet silky, fine and elegant, it should drink well on release and for 15 years after that. Drink: 2020-2035

Le Pied de Baud Chateauneuf-du-Pape comes from one single hectare of vines surrounded by forest in the North of the appellation. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault thrive here in the shade of old oaks and deeply rooted in alluvial soils of river gravel and clay, once deposited by the prehistoric Rhône river. The wine spends 18 months in large foudres and terracotta jars before bottling.
