A big, rich and massively endowed wine is the 2009 Gigondas Prestigue des Hautes Garrigues. About as hedonistic as Gigondas gets, with overflowing notes of cassis, black raspberries, garrigue and spice, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, sweet, sweet tannin and a stacked mid-palate. I doubt it will be as long lived as the 2010, but it will offer incredible amounts of pleasure over the coming 10-15 years. Drink: 2015-2031. (Oct16)

Jeb Dunnuck, The Wine Advocate

Santa Duc’s flagship Gigondas was planted around 1852 on the magnificent stony red clay soils of the Quaternary. The roots of the vines have to push through 8 meters of barren and draining alluvial soils before reaching the deeper basis of blue clay. The Grenache loves this soil, and here expresses its full power. This terroir creates deep, rich wines, with spice and a dense tannin structure, as well as an exceptional longevity.
