What the Critics say
Up with the 2007 and 2001, the sensational 2010 Gigondas Prestige des Hautes Garrigues is a full-bodied, incredibly rich, yet pure and balanced Gigondas that offers off-the-hook notes of graphite, creme de cassis, licorice and roasted herb aromas and flavors. It's still a baby and needs to be forgotten for 3-4 years, but it will have 2-3 decades of overall longevity. It could be a candidate for perfection at maturity. Drink: 2020-2035
Santa Duc’s flagship Gigondas was planted around 1852 on the magnificent stony red clay soils of the Quaternary. The roots of the vines have to push through 8 meters of barren and draining alluvial soils before reaching the deeper basis of blue clay. The Grenache loves this soil, and here expresses its full power. This terroir creates deep, rich wines, with spice and a dense tannin structure, as well as an exceptional longevity.
