What the Critics say
An interesting release from Savaterre. In some ways it’s borderline, in others it’s deliciously drinkable. The latter point wins the day. It’s light, there’s no doubting that, though it has just enough. It’s meaty and savoury but underpinned by stewed cherry flavours, a floral lift keeping it both bright and lively. Dry spice notes reach almost into pepper; a slip of cedary/smoky oak adds a smidgen of polish. This is a lifted style, a ‘drink now’ wine with character laid on. It won’t go unremarked.

Savaterre Frere Cadet (“Little brother”) wines are the result of great parcels of fruit that pop up around vintage time. Lifted aromas of Morello cherries, dewy rose petals, red berries, cinnamon and undergrowth. Everything balanced and in harmony. On the palette the wine tastes of all the above with the added bonus of having a beautiful acid seam that not only makes the fruit appear juicy, but carries the flavours through to a long, satisfying and savoury finish.
