I’m bullish on Toolangi at the moment. This was grown on 17 year old vines and saw 50% whole bunches. Get onto this. It’s an excellent wine at an excellent price. It has power and presence, fruit and spice, and it crackles long through the finish. Whole bunch influence here is clear but the fruit swaggers on through. I tasted this a few months ago and liked it; I tasted it again today and loved it. It’s a good trajectory. Beet, cherries, nuts and stemmy, smoky spices aplenty. It’s not the top wine in the Toolangi range but it acts as though it is.

The Toolangi Pinot was hand harvested from Toolangi's 2001 plantings (MV6 clone grapes on the bottom of E Block), partially de-stemmed (50% whole bunches retained) and naturally fermented in open top wooden fermenters. In total, the wine spent 21 days on skins before being pressed to French oak (20% new) for eight months.

Bottled unfined and unfiltered. Again, this is absolutely outstanding value. A bright, juby, perfumed and juicy Pinot. Expect a really fresh and vibrant personality with red cherry, raspberry fruit with lovely spice and a gentle, nettle-like twist on the surprisingly long and classy close. Bravo!
