(made from fruit grown in schist-rich soils in the Côte-Brune; 50% new barriques): Bright violet color. Intensely perfumed aromas of cassis, violet pastille, olive paste and smoky Indian spices, with a peppery quality in the background. Broad and weighty but also shows noteworthy energy to its spice- and smoke-tinged black and blue fruit flavors. Closes sappy and very long, with resonating floral character and round tannins adding gentle grip. Drink: 2018-2032 (Feb15)

Cuilleron's Madinere posses a pleasant, moreish nose of dark fruits, roasted notes and a slight menthol on the finish. The palate is harmonious and juicy with a fresh, sprightly finish. It ends with subtle, silky tannins. These grapes come a small south/southeast parcel to the north of Cote Rotie and are grown on the classic shist soils. Madiniere can be drunk for the primary fruit aromas during the first 5 years or after 10 years for the seconday flavours.
