What the Critics say
Mineral- and smoke-accented red and dark berries, candied licorice and pungent flowers on the intensely perfumed nose. Densely packed, appealingly sweet cherry, blueberry, mulberry and spicecake flavors are supported by an undercurrent of smoky minerality that provides back-end lift and cut. Shows a suave floral quality on the impressively persistent finish, which is shaped by smooth tannins. There's a deft mix of power and finesse here.
The Sereine Noire cuvée (which uniquely includes the local Syrah clone, Serine) is darker and more robust; it is sourced from the Le Mollard (Côte Blonde region) and Côte-Rozier (Côte Brune region) parcels. 300 cases made.
Yves Gangloff who, despite the slightly rock-and- roll look, maybe a little too well-established to be described as an ‘enfant terrible’, continues to astonish even his fellow winemakers with the concentration and quality of his wines. His popularity is legendary in France, which means that not very much of the already diminutive production is available for the export market. Yves settled in the Rhône region, from Alsace, only because he fell in love with Mathilde, a local woman whobecame his wife. The couple sold their grapes to E. Guigal before establishing their own vineyard in 1987. Yves Gangloff draws his wine-making experience from the time he spent at the Rhône Domaine Delas. Gangloff labels usually of voluptuous nudes, are painted by Yves' brother.
