What the Critics say
Powerful, expansive dark fruit preserve, incense, potpourri, olive and exotic spice scents show fine definition and take on a subtle pipe tobacco nuance with air. Shows surprising energy to the brawny cassis, bitter cherry and fruitcake flavors, which are complemented by a sexy violet pastille nuance. Steadily building tannins add grip to an extremely long, mineral-tinged finish that leaves sweet dark berry and cola notes behind.
The Sereine Noire cuvée (which uniquely includes the local Syrah clone, Serine) is darker and more robust; it is sourced from the Le Mollard (Côte Blonde region) and Côte-Rozier (Côte Brune region) parcels. 300 cases made.
Yves Gangloff who, despite the slightly rock-and- roll look, maybe a little too well-established to be described as an ‘enfant terrible’, continues to astonish even his fellow winemakers with the concentration and quality of his wines. His popularity is legendary in France, which means that not very much of the already diminutive production is available for the export market. Yves settled in the Rhône region, from Alsace, only because he fell in love with Mathilde, a local woman whobecame his wife. The couple sold their grapes to E. Guigal before establishing their own vineyard in 1987. Yves Gangloff draws his wine-making experience from the time he spent at the Rhône Domaine Delas. Gangloff labels usually of voluptuous nudes, are painted by Yves' brother.
