Description
90 Points, VertdeVin 2023 "The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is delicately spiced, with a fragrant floral bouquet and fresh fruit. First, there are notes of sweet spices (clove, licorice stick, a hint of grated nutmeg and white pepper). The second nose expresses fragrant floral notes (peony, rose, wildflowers), combined with fruity aromas of red cherry, strawberry, fresh raspberry, dried raspberry, red currant and a hint of wild blackberry. On the palate, the wine is chiseled, tangy, with an airy texture and a good bitterness. It expresses notes of ripe red cherry, juicy red currant, tangy raspberry, crunchy strawberry and a fine touch of white pepper, clove, nutmeg and licorice in the background. The tannins are melted and velvety. The finish is persistent, with a light note of nutmeg and floral notes (peony, dried wildflowers, rose). Beautiful crisp and salivating acidity."
ABOUT CAMILLE GIROUD
Established in 1865, Maison Camille Giroud has a rich heritage rooted in Burgundy’s winemaking tradition. Initially a specialist négociant, they sourced wines from esteemed growers across the renowned Côte d’Or region, ageing them meticulously in their cellars for decades to achieve peak maturity. In 2001, a consortium, including Napa Valley winery owner Ann Colgin and wine investors, took over, aiming to blend tradition with modern techniques and a terroir-driven approach. This led to innovations, like wooden presses and open vats, under the dynamic winemaker David Croix.
Most wines continued to be crafted from carefully selected grapes, many from old vines. Their commitment to natural winemaking practices, including native yeast fermentation and minimal intervention, set them apart. In 2016, Carel Voorhuis continued the legacy of crafting pure, terroir-driven wines, maintaining Maison Camille Giroud’s reputation for excellence in Burgundy.
