Canobolas Cabernet Franc 2023
$50.00
Description
95 Points, Halliday Wine Companion "100% destemmed and cold soaked for four days. Matured in 10% new French oak for 11 months. 38-year-old vines and boy oh boy do they play a part in the final wine. There is wisdom here and a layering of flavour. Cassis, boysenberry and charcoal dust. Licorice straps, black cardamom and petrified wood. Fruit dances with vitality, its focused line of acid un-muddied by oak. It's persistent in its cabernet franc character and overall a totally beguiling drink. Tannins are silty and fine. This wine will age well." - Shanteh Wale, Apr 2025
ABOUT CANOBOLAS WINES
Established in ’86 by the Smith family after an extensive search for the perfect site which was subsequently planted to chardonnay, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The vines are dry-grown, gaining strength from the free-draining clay loam derived from basalt soils. ’22 saw the Mattick family gain ownership of Canobolas Wines and they have instilled a holistic approach both in the vineyard and winery, with minimal intervention at the core, allowing the wines to express nuance of site and fruit purity. The resulting wines are those of power and grace, though the chardonnay is the firm standout.
