    Description

97 Points, Halliday Wine Companion: "Stainless ferment, 20% malolactic fermentation on full solids; 11 months in oak (33% new) with an additional four months on lees in stainless steel. Yellow grapefruit segments, blue riverstone and Blue-Tack. Lily of the Valley blooms, crushed limestone and white apple flesh. Dried brick mortar, honeysuckle and chamomile. Seductively aromatic and full of soil minerals, the wine is electric with pinpoint acidity. An oyster brine of salinity, droplets of finger lime and white pepper. Innate power and force behind this wine built from fruit and site. Oak elevates without distracting in any way. This is supersonic chardonnay. Drink: 2023-2030"

    ABOUT CANOBOLAS WINES

Established in ’86 by the Smith family after an extensive search for the perfect site which was subsequently planted to chardonnay, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. The vines are dry-grown, gaining strength from the free-draining clay loam derived from basalt soils. ’22 saw the Mattick family gain ownership of Canobolas Wines and they have instilled a holistic approach both in the vineyard and winery, with minimal intervention at the core, allowing the wines to express nuance of site and fruit purity. The resulting wines are those of power and grace, though the chardonnay is the firm standout.

    Description

The nose is powerful, with depth, clarity and a certain vibrancy of flavour. Citrus fruits explode with triumphant fanfare and are complemented by a beautiful rush of jasmine and gardenia aromas. On the palate the wine is palatial and expands into the distance for what seems an eternity. The delicate oak combines with a pristine core of fruit, elements of white nectarine, grapefruit and lemon all layered under a crystalline halo of delicate floral notes. It has both power and elegance. This is a beautifully balanced wine that finishes with a long flinty, saline edge.
