    Description

Only 6,000 bottles made. "A delicious, smooth and balanced Rosso with dark cherry and plummy aromas and flavors. There are hints of dried flowers and spicy oak, too. Almost full-bodied with very silky, well integrated tannins that give the wine a plump, almost chalky texture. Long finish of fruit soaked minerals. Nicely done." - 93 Points, James Suckling

"The Rosso di Montalcino Colto 2020 is spicy and strongly perfumed. It shows raspberries, dried violets, spiced orange peel and a hint of smoke. The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Colto washes over the palate with undeniable elegance, contrasting a savoury note with vibrant ripe fruit and a hint of acidic citrus that flashes towards the finish. It leaves a hint of blue and violet-coloured flowers and a residue of acidity that retains a wonderful freshness. The 2020 is very balanced and conveys both opulence and seriousness. The Colto is a selection from all of Romitorio's vineyards, including a 10-hectare plot of experimental clones from across Tuscany that is now 14 years old." - Vinous.com

"This red is ripe and dense, with a fleshy texture and granular tannins supporting cherry, plum, iron, earth and tobacco flavors. Remains fresh and persistent through the lingering aftertaste." - Wine Spectator

    What The Critics Say
Fruits of the forest such as wild strawberries and currants invade the primary scene. In the background yellow flowers like gorse, toasted sweetcorn and pumpkin. Full bodied on the palate, crunchy tannins and a flavourful, intriguing finale. It has the complexity of a select few in it's compact sip, sinuous distension and graceful closure. Drink now or hold.

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Castello Romitorio

The Castello Romitorio Brunello di Montalcino is the estate's flagship wine and reflects more than 30 years of working in harmony with nature within the terroir of Montalcino. It is a wine that expresses the Montalcino territory with purity and embodies the finest aspects o f the area’s longstanding tradition of cultivating world class Sangiovese. Founded in 1984, Castello Romitorio has been committed to the study, exploration and promotion of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. This has been possible thanks to the work of the Italian artist Sandro Chia, and his bond with Franco Martini, the first cellar master of Castello Romitorio, whose family has been producing Brunello di Montalcino for generations. Sandro Chia planted Romitorio’s first vineyards from 1984 to 1993 using ancient sangiovese varietals local to Montalcino. Today these old vines compose about 50% of Romitorio’s vineyards and serve as an immense heritage of Biodiversity. This bond now continues between Sandro’s son, Filippo Chia, and Franco’s son, Stefano Martini. The team has been working together for decades and has a profound knowledge of the territory and the traditions of winemaking in Montalcino. The work carried out between the vineyard rows is meticulous and great care is taken to understand each vineyard in order to ensure that it develops in harmony. Each plot is kept separate in the cellar and carefully aged with the goal of preserving each plot's unique characteristics. Castello Romitorio produces wines that are undeniably terroir driven and transmit a unique matrix which makes each wine an undeniable expression of their land. Their Sangiovese from Montalcino embodied in their Brunello Riservas, Brunellos and Rosso di Montalcino are wines with a combination of subtle nuances that represent the ancient, and wild mountain Terroir. “CASTELLO ROMITORIO'S WINES ARE SOME OF MONTALCINO'S SLEEKEST AND MOST PERFUMED...” - IAN D'AGATA
