The 2016 Sauternes vintage was very good. The growing season was notable for the absence of gray rot, which normally plagues the vines

Decanter World Wine Awards 2019 “89% Sémillon, 10% Sauvignon, 1% Muscadelle. Ginger, orange blossom and honey tones. Well balanced, with intriguing oatmeal notes alongside the honeycomb and apricot.”

Silver Medal Internationl Wine Challenge "Waxy texture with lemon peel and lime notes with spicy orange peel and honey. Refreshing clean finish."

The Château Roumieu vineyard covers 17 hectares and because of the specific soil produces the true Sauternes. Only the wines from Sauternes in France can be called Sauternes. So if you're drinking something called Sauternes from anywhere else, it's just another white wine, not the real thing.

Chateau Roumieu is well placed beside the well known châteaux of the 1855 classification, Château Climens, a Premier Cru Classe and Château Doisy Vedrines a 2nd Cru Classe. Using only traditional methods and organic fertilizers Château Roumieu adapts quickly to changing weather influences. The grapes for the Barsac-Sauternes wines are picked by hand, usually in October, with an experienced team of grape pickers going over the same area 3 to 6 times to select the grapes which have reached a specific level of ripeness. Again, using traditional methods the wine is left to develop for over 18 months in oak barrels in the 'chai' or storehouse where temperature and hydrometry are strictly and constantly measured.
