Top-rated 96-99 Points, JebDunnuck.com - "From a cooler terroir in the northern part of the appellation, the 2020 Cornas Les Eygats is inky purple and gives up a powerful, full-bodied, concentrated style offering loads of minerality as well as blue fruit, pepper, pen ink, and graphite aromas and flavors. Reminding me of the 2010, this dense, rich, massive Cornas is going to require bottle age, but it’s insanely good. Drink by 2042."
Top-rated 95-97 Points, Vinous.com - "Dark purple. Vibrant, expansive aromas of spice-accented dark berries, minerals and candied flowers pick up suggestions of olive, vanilla and smoky bacon with air. Sappy and energetic in style, offering intense blackberry, bitter cherry, licorice, black pepper and mocha flavors that turn sweeter as the wine opens up. Finishes spicy, youthfully tannic and impressively long, leaving resonating floral and spice notes behind." - Dec 2022
The origins of the Courbis family estate date back to the 16th century. More recently, the brothers Dominique and Laurent Courbis succeeded their father, Maurice, in the early 1990s. Working from their gravity fed winery built into the slopes of St Joseph, the two are at the forefront of modern winemaking in the Northern Rhone. Grapes are hand harvested and 100 percent de-stemmed.The Syrahs are vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel. Timings vary across the range. Lighter red wines are matured in a mix of tank and used barriques while top Cornas and St Joseph see a mix of new and one year old oak.
