    Description

    50% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache, 26% Cinsault, 4% Syrah

Mourvèdre, the dark knight of Bandol, rich and boldly expressive of all things Provence, relinquishes the center stage here and shares the spotlight with the more delicate, floral, and fresh Cinsault. This is a rare marriage in red Bandol (Cinsault is usually a key player in rosé rather than rouge), from an even rarer terroir for the region, high on the hills, deep in a pine forest, far from it all. As is often the case, the Migoua this year is the most forward and open-tasting single vineyard from Tempier, where its tinge of rosemary, wisp of anise, and hint of smoke combine for a glass full of deliciousness.

    Description

Located on the Beausset Vieux hillside, at an altitude of 300 meters, La Migoua consists of scattered parcels circled by wild scrubland. An extraordinary geological accident formed very complex soil. A sheet of rock was added to a geological reversal with older underground rock layers of limestone, dolomite and dedo-lomite. The rugged relief provides different exposure to the sun (east, west and south), generally less affected by the Mistral, a strong northwesterly wind. The select La Migoua cuvée expresses all the specificity of this 11-hectare site.

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Domaine Tempier

Tempier is one of the best known estates in Bandol and has been run by the Peyraud family since 1936, when Lucie Tempier married Lucien Peyraud. In 1943 Lucien bottled his first wine, a rose, and by 1945 had become President of the Bandol Wine Association, a position he held for 37 years. The couple were fundamental in the ensuing growth and recognition of Bandol as a globally recognised producer of fine wine. Lucien died in 1996 and Lucie (Lulu) continued her involvment in both food and wine, until her death in October 2020 at the age of 102, just after the harvest.
