ABOUT DOMAINE FEUILLAT-JUILLOT
Domaine Feuillat-Juillot is located in Montagny (Côte Chalonnaise) and run by Françoise Feuillat-Julliot (daughter of the famous Mercurey producer, Michel Juillot). Françoise has now been joined by the next generation, with her daughter Camille, who helps with the 14-hectare Domaine of wonderfully sited, mainly old vines, spread amongst 13 different Premier Crus in the viticultural amphitheatre that is Montagny. They produce several wines including their introductory `Camille`, `L`Original` (which is aged in terracotta), as well as their highly-regarded Premier Crus `Les Grappes d’Or` and `Les Coeres`. Montagny is located in Burgundy in the Cote chalonnaise and just 30km south of Chassagne, Puligny Montrachet and Meursault. The history of the Montagny Wine Region dates back to Gallo-Roman times when the Romans occupied this area. The wine industry was introduced to this region during that time. The first documented evidence of winemaking in this region occurred during the 10th century and it was done by Benedictine monks who had a monastery there. The wines of Montagny are a perfect example of how the soil and climate can influence a wine's character. The soil in Montagny is chalky, with clay on the top layer. This composition affects how the grape vines interact with the soil and thus impacts flavor production. In addition, Montagny lies within a cool climate zone, which modifies its temperature to produce wines that are delicate and fruity.
