    Description

A new vineyard for us in 2024, the St James vineyard sits just below Mount Lofty in the heart of Piccadilly. True to style, this wine has the classic Piccadilly power and flair along with citrus, melons, ripe fruit a hint of new oak and impressive acid.. a complete package and the reason this part of the hills is often referred to as the Grand Cru section

"This is flashy yet refined, with aromas of struck match, grilled lemons, slate and salted nuts. The palate is textural and mid-weighted, with fine-boned acidity and a plush texture. A refined and pure expression of Piccadilly chardonnay. Drink or hold." 96 Points, James Suckling.com

"This is both a rich release and a release that needs some extra time – to integrate further, as much as anything. It’s going to be stellar in a few years. It tastes of white and yellow peach, tonic water, cedarwood oak and toast, with spearmint, salted chalk and crushed rock characters in the mix too. The mouthfeel of this wine and the power of fruit are both of emphatic note. There’s some glory to this chardonnay." 95 Points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Gentle Folk

The Real Review's Rising Star of the Year Australia 2025

Gareth and Rainbo Belton have grown the reputation of Gentle Folk to the point where their wines are now among the most in-demand in all of Australian wine. This is a case of gentle folk making gentle wines, but there’s more to it than that: both Gareth and Rainbo are also marine scientists, their (PhD) specialty being marine plants (seaweeds), and there’s a sense to everything that they do that the natural order and way of things is their chief informant. The Adelaide Hills region has been crucial – indeed, the driver – of the Australian 'progressive wine' movement, and Gentle Folk has been a quiet but inspiring ingredient thereof.

The wines ooze a natural charm that only inspired farming practices and sensitive winemaking can deliver. Gentle Folk are truly unique Australian wines that express their origins and the ethos of their dedicated thoughtful maker.  And yes, they sell out fast!
