    Description

95pts Halliday Wine Companion: "While not straying from its usual form, this release is slightly more savoury and earthy – an honest blend of fruit from all the estate vineyards, plus a little addition from Uraidla. Bramble and moss, orange rind and dried fig – this is fruit broken open to the air of a cold autumnal dusk. It's contemplative and unfurls over days. The tannins are soft but elastic and there is a feeling of stretch and relent to their movements. And the acidity gleams. It's spicy, too: pine needle, violets and black tea. It has the weight and concentration to make you double check the price." - Katrina Butler

    Description

A blend of all our estate vineyards plus the St James's vineyard in Uraidla. The 2024 release is more about the earthiness and bramble reflective of the majority of the fruit coming from Little Creek and Basket Range, but it still sits comfortably in our usual house style - a dance of aromatics and tannin. Sadly very tiny yields from 2024 so not much....

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Gentle Folk

The Real Review's Rising Star of the Year Australia 2025

Gareth and Rainbo Belton have grown the reputation of Gentle Folk to the point where their wines are now among the most in-demand in all of Australian wine. This is a case of gentle folk making gentle wines, but there’s more to it than that: both Gareth and Rainbo are also marine scientists, their (PhD) specialty being marine plants (seaweeds), and there’s a sense to everything that they do that the natural order and way of things is their chief informant. The Adelaide Hills region has been crucial – indeed, the driver – of the Australian 'progressive wine' movement, and Gentle Folk has been a quiet but inspiring ingredient thereof.

The wines ooze a natural charm that only inspired farming practices and sensitive winemaking can deliver. Gentle Folk are truly unique Australian wines that express their origins and the ethos of their dedicated thoughtful maker.  And yes, they sell out fast!
