Santa Duc Chateauneuf-du-Pape 'La Pied de Baud' 2019
$139.00
Description
Highly-rated by wine critics. A beautiful blend of 80% Grenache and 10% each of Cinsault and Mourvèdre.
96 Points Wine Cellar - "With loads of black raspberries, spicy kirsch, thyme and herbs the wine is soft, silky, fresh and lively. The purity in the fruits stands out here on the mid-palate and in the lush, fruit filled, elegant finish. This can be difficult to find as less than 400 cases were produced this year. The wine was produced from 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault. Drink from 2024 - 2035"
94 Points Jeb Dunnuck - The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Pied De Baud offers a deeper purple/ruby hue as well as a ripe, more up-front bouquet of red and blue fruits, ground pepper, violets, and more minerality, which comes through more on the palate. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and structured, give bottles a few years and enjoy over the following decade or more. This cuvée comes from the pebbly soils of the Pied de Baud lieu-dit, was partially destemmed, and is 80% Grenache and 10% each of Cinsault and Mourvèdre. Drink: 2023-2033
Le Pied de Baud Chateauneuf-du-Pape comes from one single hectare of vines surrounded by forest in the North of the appellation. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Cinsault thrive here in the shade of old oaks and deeply rooted in alluvial soils of river gravel and clay, once deposited by the prehistoric Rhône river. The wine spends 18 months in large foudres and terracotta jars before bottling.
