Think of Grillo as a fuller, funky alternative to Pinot Grigio. A light, easy-drinking value summer wine from Italy. Grown on black silt rich, compacted soils 300 metres above sea level.The wine is pale straw/olive with lovely vibrant citrus and tropical aromas that are supplemented on the palate yellow melon. Clean and bright on the finish. This wine is a pure, bright reflection of its place in the world and is terrific value. Grillo pronounced GREE-lo originated in Sicily and is a more robust alternative to Pinot Grigio. With that slight herbal note and bright acidity, all seafood, vegetable dishes and pastas will do well. A 100% Grillo, an authentic and identifying interpretation of the main vine of Western Sicily, grown on the vineyards of the hilly countryside of Gibellina, 300 meters above sea level. Manual harvest at the end of August, soft pressing and light maceration in contact with the skins, to express the full aromatic potential. Finally, aging in stainless steel for three months, with a further two in the bottle. Il Grillo from the “I Contemporanei” line is characterized by a complex bouquet of tropical fruit and Mediterranean citrus fruits. The sip flows pleasantly, with a slightly savory finish that tickles the palate.
ABOUT TENUTE ORESTIANDI
This Sicilian estate just an hour southwest of Palermo source fruit from around the ancient town of Gibellina and of course on Mt. Etna. Tenute Orestiadi is a project born of the Orestiadi Foundation, based in Gibellina, and a local co-op Cantine Ermes. Sicily is an island with a long tradition of winemaking and Molino a Vento (Tenute Orestiadi) in the hills at Gibellina is a well-known vineyard. They grow indigenous Sicilian varietals. Unique Terroir characterized by different soils, different microclimates and different altitudes create selections of native single vineyards of Tenute Orestiadi.
