Vieux Naudin Bordeaux Superieur 2021
$24.00
Description
Superb value! This little gem won the “Best Buy” accolade in Gourmet Traveller Wine recently which spiked our curiosity. It comes from St Michel de Fronsac which is Merlot country and yes it’s 70% Merlot with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). Vieux Naudin Bordeaux Superieur pays tribute to the Traver's family ancestors, producing generation after generation of winemakers. The fruit is grown in the heart of Saint Michel de Fronsac. This wine is exactly what one would expect at this price point. A blend of about two-thirds merlot and the rest cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, this gorgeous plummy red is balanced by savoury flavours of earth and coffee, and a dark sour-cherry lick of complexity.
ABOUT VIEUX NAUDIN
Grown in the heart of Saint Michel de Fronsac, better known for growing Merlot. The Vieux Naudin label is a storied one, going back decades, and pays tribute to the founding family Traver and their ancestors, who have produced generation after generation of winemakers. A singular estate, they focus on this one wine, being a blend of their terroir and the best fruit they can find. The region is the small Bordeaux subregion Saint Michel de Fronsac, located on the right bank of the Dordogne River and not far from the town of Libourne. Here Merlot is the star, and indeed the wine is the made from a blend that is dominated by 70% Merlot, with the remainder coming from Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc. The cool weather and older vines produces elegant styled wines that are not overwhelmed with oak - classic Bordeaux that hits all the right spots.
