Wendouree

Wendouree has no cellar door, no fax, no website, it doesn't need them. The wines have such an incredible history and pedigree, they speak for themselves.

A legendary, cult-status winery in Australia's Clare Valley, famous for producing extremely limited, age-worthy wines from historic, dry-grown vines planted in the late 1800s, known for their depth, structure, and difficulty to acquire, with sales exclusively through a famously hard-to-join mailing list, requiring handwritten letters for application. Run by Tony and Lita Bradysince the 1970s, it's a time capsule with no cellar door, website, or email, operating as custodians of a priceless Australian wine treasure.

From James Halliday: "An iron fist in a velvet glove best describes these extraordinary wines. They are fashioned with commitment from the very old vineyard (shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, malbec, mataro and muscat of Alexandria), with its unique terroir, by Tony and Lita Brady, who rightly see themselves as custodians of a priceless treasure. The 100+yo stone winery is virtually unchanged from the day it was built; this is in every sense a treasure beyond price. Wendouree has never made any comment about its wines, but the subtle shift from the lighter end of full bodied to the fuller end of medium bodied seems to be a permanent one (always subject to the dictates of the vintage). The best news of all is that I (James) will get to drink some of the Wendourees I have bought over the past 10 years before I die and not have to rely on my few remaining bottles from the '70s (and rather more from the ’80s and ’90s)"
