    A sunny disposition of citrus blossom & honeydew melon on the bouquet…  much like that of a Sommelier introducing you to a new wine she has discovered. The palate… finely detailed with bright acidity, parmesan rind & a chalky grip reflecting the precise nature of a winemaker. Arneis… a friendly & peculiar Italian varietal that brought two school friends together again to produce a wine of passion, place and memories.

    This Arneis pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, creamy pasta, goat cheese salads or light poultry dishes. Its zesty acidity and delicate fruit make it perfect for summer lunches, casual gatherings or as a bright aperitif. A versatile and refined white that consistently delivers charm and freshness.

    Cellaring: Drinking beautifully +5 years

    Vineyard: ChaLou, Orange. N.S.W

    Soil: Ordovician material approximately 460million years old. It contains basic volcanic material; sandstone, siltstone breccia and conglomerate derived from basalt and andesite

    Season: A Cool wet season. Vines were shoot thinned and leaf plucked to reduce disease pressure and keep canopies open and dry.

    Winemaking Notes:

    Hand harvested Cooled overnight before processing.

    Crushed and basket pressed- keeping pressing fraction separate.

    Free run fermented in old French barriques with native yeast.

    Pressings were hyperoxidized to knock out harsh phenolics, then racked to older French oak for ferment with native yeast.

    Matured on fermentation lees until spring.

    Minimal fining and sulfur additions prior to bottling.

    2025 HALLIDAY DARK HORSE WINERY WINNER! Steve and Nadja both grew up on family vineyards. Nadja in Canowindra (40 minutes down the hill from Orange) and Steve in Wauchope, not far from Port Macquarie. They first met when studying winemaking at Charles Sturt university together in 2008. Following their studies, they each went their separate ways working and traveling in wine both domestically and abroad. In 2014 they each came to orange for winemaking opportunities and from then on they have been inseparable. Steve started in Orange as a part of the winemaking team at Cumulus Wines before taking the reins of Nadja’s family winery “Wallington Wines” in 2017, overseeing the viticulture, winemaking, and wine sales. Nadja has spent the past 7 years winemaking for renowned local brand “Philip Shaw Wines”. In 2020 they purchased a vineyard in Orange and here they have developed their own band ChaLou Wines. They are passionate about what they do, making expressive delicious wine and are dedicated to working sustainably with the land. ChaLou was a 2022 finalist for the Young Gun of Wine Award.
