Timo Mayer Sangiovese Yarra Valley 2024
$55.00
Description
Sultry, silky, and effortlessly seductive, this Sangiovese is all about pure pleasure. Juicy red cherries and wild strawberries spill from the glass, laced with crushed violets, warm spice, and a whisper of earthiness. The palate is sleek and vibrant, with supple tannins and a bright, mouthwatering acidity that keeps you coming back for more. A touch of wildness adds intrigue, while the long, lingering finish leaves a teasing kiss of spice and minerality.
94 Points, The Wine Front: "Silky, satiny, super perfumed. Charisma plus. Vibrant red cherry, touches of maraschino, sweet spice, cola, cranberry, sarsaparilla going on here; kinda explosive, then, in the same breath, this feels tempered with lacy tannins and chalky pucker that extends through the lively squirt of blood orange tang. This has great mojo. It’s not just fun, it pushes an agenda about fine wine in Australia from the variety with its multi-layered vibe. Pleasure zone stuff."
ABOUT TIMO MAYER
German-born, enigmatic winemaker Timo Mayer is one of the great characters of the Yarra Valley. The words bombastic, charismatic and wild are as much applicable to the man as his wines. From his close-planted Yarra Valley vineyard, evocatively named 'Bloody Hill', Timo carves out some astounding wines made with low levels of new oak and minimal additions. The signature of Timo's winemaking style is his penchant for whole-bunch ferment. His wines have an ethereal quality, firm tannins and impeccable structure. These are compelling and extremely limited wines that tell a unique story of the Yarra Valley.
