92 Points, Falstaff.com - “Bright golden yellow, silver-colored reflex. Fine honey nuances, ripe peach, delicate pineapple, a touch of new wood, attractive fruit. Medium complexity, white peach, aromatic with Semillion, a hint of pear in the finish, rather reserved sweetness, already easy to drink, powerful in the aftertaste.”

Classified as a First Growth in 1855. Rieussec is one of the biggest estates of Sauternes with 227 acres of vines, situated on the “communes” of Sauternes and Fargues, high above the Garonne River, in a small area where the cold Autumn dawns help form the famous mist. It is this mist which many believe plays a major role in the development of botrytis cinerea (noble rot). Château Rieussec is one of the largest properties in Sauternes and Barsac, covering 85 hectares of gravel sitting on sandy-clay soils.

    Description

Made primarily from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes, the renown Sauternes gets its unique flavor from a natural process called "noble rot" (Botrytis cinerea) - affecting the grapes in a unique way. It pierces the grape skins, leading to dehydration of the berries, which in turn concentrates the sugars and flavors. This process results in grapes that, while visually unappealing, are the source of Sauternes’ intense sweetness and complex flavor profile, characterized by honey, apricot, and a unique botrytis-infused character that wine connoisseurs describe as utterly captivating.
