The wine is underlined by a lively acidity and minerality so typical of the Doctor vineyard site. It is an extremely complex wine with a tremendous aging potential. Carries an aroma of hot stones, with dark currant and nectarine flavors supported by a lively acidity. This is rich and juicy on the finish, offering notes of white chocolate and spice.
Description
The Thanisch family's winemaking tradition in the Mosel Valley stretches back to 1636. The legendary Berncasteler Doctor vineyard is located behind the village Bernkastel and is one of the most famous vineyards in Germany. This 100% steep site with a South-South-West orientation consists of medium deep, stony, loamy weathered agrillaceous schist. Planted with up to 80 year old vines, full-bodied spicy wines are grown here. The South-South-West orientation of the vineyards guarantees optimal sunshine throughout most of the day.

Founded in 1650, Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch is one of the Mosel’s great historic estates, with more than 370 years of Riesling heritage. Today it is led by Sofia Thanisch and her daughter Christina, the 11th and 12th generations of the family. Their vineyards, including the celebrated Berncasteler Doctor, Lay, Graben and Badstube, are rooted in the weathered grey slate of Bernkastel. The estate is a VDP member and works exclusively with Riesling, making wines of finesse, mineral precision and extraordinary longevity, from delicate Kabinett to luscious Auslese.
