    Description

Cuilleron's Bassenon Cote Rotie has an elegant bouquet that mixes Syrah’s red berry fruits with Viognier’s floral character (violets). It is elegant, fresh and a little airy on the palate with subtle yet prominent tannins. The grapes are picked from Cuilleron's small piece of south-facing terraced vines on Coteau de Semons, in Tupin-Semons commune. Drink for the primary aromas during the first 5 years, or for the secondary aromas after 10 years.

    Description

"Red, blue, and black fruits, violets, potpourri, baking chocolate, and spice all emerge from the 2022 Côte Rôtie Bassenon, a more approachable Côte Rôtie than either the Bonnivières or Viallière. Medium to full-bodied and mouth-filling, with a rich and textured profile and rounded tannins, give this just a few years in the cellar. Drink 2027-2040." 91 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, Sep 2025

    What The Critics Say
"The fleshy 2022 Côte-Rôtie Bassenon ushers in licorice, ripe black cherry, cured meat and iodine aromas. Medium-to full-bodied, the expressive 2022 lands on the palate with elevated flavor concentration, softly framed around gentle tannins. Closing with resonance on the savory finish, the 2022 won't take much time to come around. Drink 2025-2032"

    ABOUT THIS BRAND

    Yves Cuilleron

Yves Cuilleron succeeded his uncle, Antoine, in 1987. This highly regarded domaine has been steadily expanding. With vineyard holdings of only 3.5 hectares when Yves Cuilleron assumed control, he is now pushing toward 100 hectares with vines in every Northern Rhône appellation, save for Hermitage. Cuilleron is not shy about using new oak, but the percentage has been throttled back over the last decade, which is a positive result. Cuilleron travels extensively, and his wines are now omnipresent worldwide. The entry-level Syrah bottlings deliver excellent value and are a great and readily available introduction to the house style, which favors generous fruit and relative accessibility. That said, recent vintages have become a bit more serious, showing more restraint and structure than in the past.
