5 STARS WINERY AWARD - JAMES HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION

"Every year, tasting the new releases of Mike Press Wines fills me with a sense of wonder: how is it possible that such BEAUTIFULLY MADE WINES should have such IMPOSSIBLY LOW PRICES?" - James Halliday

Mike Press Wines was established by renowned winemaker Mike Press, having planted 22 hectares of vines in 1998 and 1999 to create one of the coolest and breathtaking beautiful vineyards in the Adelaide Hills at Kenton Valley. In 2017, Bob and Yuko Harris purchased the vineyard and the business with the commitment to carry forward the established reputation for quality and value. The quality starts with understanding the soil, topography and micro-climates in the vineyard.

Our vineyard is located high in the Adelaide Hills situated in the Kenton Valley just outside the town of Lobethal. The vineyard sits at an elevation of 400m to 500m above sea level and consists of gentle slopes and valleys allowing the vines to be planted with different orientations and therefore receive different levels of sunlight, breezes, temperatures and even rainfall. The soils vary across the vineyard featuring an abundance of quartz, ironstone and schist rock formations scattered throughout soil that ranges from sandy loam to clay loam. This combination of soil types along with the range of elevation and orientations allows a great diversity of varieties and clones to ripen on one site. Even the same variety can make a very different wine because it is planted in a different part of the vineyard.
