Rising star Etienne Julien has put the small marble-quarry town of Comblanchien on the map. Since his first vintage in 2012, demand for his wines has increased ten-fold. Étienne has driven positive changes in his family wine to use of organic practices, reduced yields and cut out the use of chemicals from the vineyard work. His careful cellar efforts follow his hard vineyard work, resulting in transparent, clean wines which taste wonderful from barrel to bottle. In a lovely confluence, Étienne Julien is a rising star in an appellation that has never produced finer wines. Frequently in blind tastings we are seeing Nuits St Georges wines outscore wines from Vosne-Romanee, Chambole and the posher suburbs of Burgundy.
